A Draft U.S. Plan on Iraq Inspection Authorizes Force essays

A Draft U.S. Plan on Iraq Inspection Authorizes Force essays The Bush Administration has drafted a plan for inspections that provides for unrestricted access to all sited in Iraq, including Saddam Husseins presidential compounds and palaces. Also authorities the use of military force if Baghdad interferes with what the United States is going to do A U.S. official says if we find anything in what they give us that is not true, that is the trigger. The plan which American and British officials are presenting is to declare that Iraq is already violating its obligations to the United Nations. Iraq also needs to put the ownership on Saddam Hussein to comply. Saddam has a seven-day deadline to accept and declare all his weapons of mass destruction, and 23 more days to open site and provide documents to support this declaration. It appears that France, China and Russia who also have say in this are not supportive of force towards Iraq. They feel that military action should not be used. There was a provision of resolution in 1998 called 1154, which s tated that Iraq had to be notified before inspecting presidential sites and they were to have diplomats in their company when inspected. This new plan would override resolution 1154. I think we have to do something to find out what kind of mass destruction Iraq is capable of but I do not believe we should have to use military force and go to war. Too many people would be hurt and a lot of lives could be killed. I know that some how we need to stop Saddam Hussein but Im not sure how. I do not understand how anyone could be so sick and destructive as a man like Saddam Hussein. I hope the United States can find a way to prevent mass destruction and war because are world will be crushed if something of that notion happens. There is enough disease and death and sadness in life already without people risking others lives for no good reason. ...

STRATEGY, PROJECT MANAGEMENT & SUPPLY CHAIN Case Study

STRATEGY, PROJECT MANAGEMENT & SUPPLY CHAIN - Case Study Example It is difficult to manage a project in the energy sector where there is friction with the government and, in this case, issues with the extension of the PSA have made it difficult for companies to achieve profit estimates. Failure by some companies, in this case Agip KCO, to respect the production schedule and compliance with environmental regulations have resulted in friction between international consortiums and the government (Esty & Bitsch, 2013: p4). Scharffen Berger is rapidly expanding and the most important issue at such a point is to decide on how to increase its capacity across its production system, as well as the technologies to use (Snow et al, 2010: p9). In such a situation, a company like Scharffen Berger should consider marketing requirements, effects of reputation and quality, and alternative approaches aimed at increasing output both in the long and short term. This issue is exacerbated by Toyota’s use of offline systems to address these problems, which is a deviation from the Toyota production System’s procedures and policies (Mishina & Takeda, 1995: p2). Sinopec’s implementation of the vendor-managed inventory system provides important insight into potential challenges facing the implementation of such supply chain strategies, including poor integration of information systems. In implementing the VMI strategy, such challenges could lead to an increase in inventory stored by the supplier, especially if there is lack of mutual trust in the chain of supply (Zhao et al, 2006:

Estimation of the value of gravitational acceleration (g) Based on Lab Report

Estimation of the value of gravitational acceleration (g) Based on measurements from a simple pendulum - Lab Report Example derived value after factoring in the uncertainty, corroborating the insight that the time period of the oscillation is dependent solely on string length (Ji and Bell 2015; Jardine-Wright 2010). The experiment calls for the calculation of g or the gravitational acceleration via the use of a simplified mechanism, and then undertaking a comparison between the value arrived at from that mechanism with the standard value of g, which is pegged at 9.81. The key principle in the mechanism of the oscillation of systems such as the simplified pendulum lies in being able to grasp the nature of the forces that act on the mechanism. In the pendulum, it is the force of g or the gravitational acceleration which impinge on the frequency of the oscillations, effecting a dampening effect on those oscillations through time. The oscillations of the pendulum mechanism can be construed as being simple harmonic in nature and is periodic. Here the force of restoration is in direct proportion to the pendulum displacement. For the purposes of this paper, the relevant formula is the one that prescribes the value of the time period, which is given thus (Ji and Bell 2015; Jardine-Wright 2010): In the equation above, the value of T is dependent only on the string length l and g. Therefore, given T and l, g can be derived. The insight from the experiment is in being able to understand the way the oscillating system variables affect each other, as stated in the instructions; how the value of g is derived; and what the measurement errors and the causes of those errors are (Ji and Bell 2015; Jardine-Wright 2010). Two people made up a group, and the basic materials were the cotton rope, which was used as the string to hold the weight, which was first a plastic ball and later changed to a golf ball for more weight. The measuring devices were a ruler and an iPhone used as timing device. The rope was tied to the golf ball, and the time to ten oscillations were measured, with the golf ball suspended

Media Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Media Paper - Essay Example Moreover, there was the fear of the nation getting involved in the war that broke in 1931 as Hitler attacked Poland. For these reasons, America tried her best â€Å"to be as unneutral as possible without getting involved† (Viola, 790-793). The United States though, was having its relationship with Japan strained with issues over China and French Indochina. Viola (1998) notes that in November 20, 1941; the last offer of Japan was given to the United States, for her to cut off aid to China and end the embargo. In response, America asked a counteroffer on the 26th of the same month, for Japan to leave the Axis powers and to withdraw from China and the French Indochina. In his speech, Roosevelt mentioned that the final response the Secretary of State received from the Japanese ambassador to the United States implied no threat. Therefore, he described the attack as sudden and deliberate. What the president was trying to tell to the nation in the aforementioned speech was that, the nation tried her best to stay away from the war, that the empire of Japan posed a threat to the nation because of the deliberate bombing of the Pearl Harbor, that America has to do something to protect her people and for the nation to understand and help in the president’s stand. During a tumultuous time like this, the president surely did not need critics but support and encouragement. He needed to tell the people frankly what the state of the nation is and let them see clearly the need to be involved even during a time when no one would like to go to war. Roosevelt ended his speech with an appeal to the Congress to â€Å"declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire†, plainly and simply. As Schlesinger puts it, Roosevelt â€Å"recognized that to mob ilize public

Ocean Acidification and Climate Change

Ocean Acidification and Climate Change Most of us have heard about global warming and what it is doing to our world, including our oceans. Global warming is simply a climate change. A slow and steady increase in the temperature of the earths atmosphere, environment, and its oceans is believed to be permanently changing the earths climate. Climate change involves rapidly changing temperatures and unpredictable weather patterns on huge scale. In addition, these changes cause an increase in concentrations of gases which trap heat in the atmosphere, often called greenhouse gases. The most commonly released gas is carbon dioxide. The increase volumes of carbon dioxide and some other gases released by the burning of fuels, clearing lands, agriculture, and other human actions are believed to be the most important sources of global warming. This has occurred over the past fifty years. Ocean acidification has destructive and harmful results to our earths underwater environment. The absorption of carbon dioxide by the earths oceans is increasing the acid levels, producing harmful and long-term destruction to our oceans coral reefs, which causes them to dissolve by reducing their calcification. Changes in the earths ocean environment is not often seen or felt, so it is essential to discuss the importance of this process on the coral reefs and the dangerous effects of global warming. Coral reefs are the most biodiverse ecosystems of the oceans. Coral reefs are estimated to shelter around one-third of all marine species; about 500 million people rely on coral reefs for food, income, and medicine. Coral reefs also act as barriers during inclement weather. Human activity is causing the earth to get warmer and warmer, especially by the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation, the clear cutting of forests. When we dig out and burn fossil fuels, like coal and petroleum, we cause the release of carbon dioxide and other gases into the atmosphere. Clearing of the forests also allows for large amounts of carbon dioxide to be released all over the entire world. The future of coral reefs is threatened by humans and natural disturbances. Typical ocean pH levels vary due to the effect of the environment. When the pH of water falls below 5.0 or rises above 9.6, harmful actions become obvious. pH levels below 7.6 will cause coral reefs to dissolve as a result of the lack of calcium carbonate. Efforts to alleviate global warming and ocean acidification by reducing emissions have been unsuccessful. Scientists have become more interested in climate engineering to prevent the dangerous outcomes of climate change. Artificial ocean alkalization is studied as a way to decrease local ocean acidification and to protect coral reefs ecosystems. Several readings focused on the possibility of changing ocean pH by increasing water alkalinity. In these studies, alkalizing agents, such as calcium carbonate or calcium hydroxide, were used to increase the oceans alkalinity and the potential of protecting coral reefs against ocean acidification. This approach is logical but doubtful because of the constant changes (variation) of carbon dioxide concentration from season to season, day to night, and the species variety and ability to adapt. Also, increasing the oceans surface pH stimulates an additional absorption of carbon dioxide. In another study, a team of international scientists, including a Texas AM University researcher, examined the Tree Reef, bordering the Australian coast. The team added sodium hydroxide to the water to reverse acidity and increase alkalinity of the water. With the increase of water pH, the reef grew quickly as a result of the experiment. Scientists concluded that it is possible to increase the growth of coral reefs if ocean acidification is reversed. In addition, according to a new study published in the journal Environmental Science Technology, blowing tiny bubbles though seawater could remove carbon dioxide from the water and help offset (counteract) water acidification. However, installing bubbles anywhere where coral reefs are present is expensive. The idea of increasing the alkalinity of ocean water to protect and preserve coral reefs is like turning back the clock hundreds of years. Back then, the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere was lower, and the oceans were much healthier. The best solution would be to stop emitting carbon dioxide and prevent ocean acidification.

Basic Transistor Physics Essay -- physics electronics transistor

The first transistor was demonstrated on Dec. 23, 1947, at Bell Labs by William Shockley. This new invention consisting of P type and N type semiconductive materials (in this case germanium) has completely revolutionized electronics. Transistors quickly replaced vacuum tubes in almost all applications (most notably those in discrete logic). Today when we think of transistors the first thing that comes to mind is computers. Advances in transistor technology and manufacturing processes as well as new materials being used for the semiconductor matrix and wiring have led to smaller, faster, cheaper, lower power transistors. Some of the basic principles behind semiconductor behavior and the restrictions currently faced by modern transistors will be discussed in the following pages. Transistors are composed of a P type (positively doped) and N type (negatively doped) semiconductor material. These P-N junctions are the heart of both BJTs (Bipolar Junction Transistors) and FETs (Field Effect Transistors). BJTs have a physical connection between they current controlling input (base) and the input and output (collector and emitter). This results in a trickle current into the base. FETs have a physical separation between the control (gate) and the input and output (drain and source). BJT and FET transistors are used in virtually every electronic device requiring current regulation or amplification. They make it very easy to precisely control power to a device reliably and with much greater efficiency than other methods. Another common use of transistors is their role in discrete logic. First used in DTL (Diode Transistor Logic) transistors compact nature and high switching speeds lend themselves well to use in logic ICs. Journalism Is Art

Journalism Is Art Journalism is defined as â€Å"writing that reflects superficial thought and research, a popular slant, and hurried composition conceived of as exemplifying topical newspaper or popular magazine writing as distinguished from scholar writing. † Art is defined as â€Å"the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance. † So how are the two related? Journalism and art are related by definition because of two things. First, they are related because they both require superficial thought.Without creativity or a critical thinking process the article is not going to be different from anyone else’s. What separates the New York Times journalist from a college newspaper journalist? It is not just pay. It is pure experience and creativity. Any good writing requires creative thinking. Each piece of writing is individualized by the character and creativity o f the writer Same with art. If everyone thought the same way then we wouldn’t have amazing paintings like the Mona Lisa by Leonardo Devinci or Starry Night by Vincent Van Gaugh that stands out from your local artist. Each artist has different styles of painting. An example would be modern art and scenery art. Each requires different strongholds in different areas of skill. Just like journalists, one writer may write amazing columns but when it comes to a hard news article they are not as strong. Secondly journalism and art is related by definition because they both have more than ordinary significance. Sylvia, who writes for the TAXI design network quotes, â€Å"When we are so deeply moved by an experience that we want to share it with others, we are where art begins. Art does not need to be â€Å"understood† or to be enjoyed.Like life itself, it can simply be experienced. Yet the more we understand what art can offer, the richer our experience of it will be. † T his statement can be related to journalism. As a journalist, we write about what moves us to share or inform others. Articles are not always written to be enjoyed. They are sometimes used to break the most horrid news. These types of articles just can only simply be experienced. This is part of the art of journalism. It is part of life. Good journalism as well as good art has impact on our life. An article may reveal secretes of the government and ddress problems that we should be aware of in our community. Art impacts our life the same way. The painting La Maja Desnuda by Spanish painter Francisco Goya raised much controversy in the late 1700’s. This painting was one of the first nude paintings depicting pubic hair on a woman. Goya was stripped of his position of a Spanish court painter after this painting was revealed. It impacted people, just like journalism. This semester I have had my first experience as a journalist. I am taking a newspaper print class and writing for t he school newspaper, The Bridge. When I first started the class I had no clue what I was getting into. Tight deadlines, different styles of articles, gathering information from sometimes non-willing sources, and the whole separate art of photojournalism were a shock to me. I perceive journalism as an art because of experience. Just like a painting it takes time, creative thought, and has different styles Many people argue that journalism is a dying art or not an art at all. I can agree with the fact that journalism is a dying art. Before television and radio, newspaper print was the only way of circulating the news other than by word of mouth. It is much different in this day and time. We now have television that have reporters report to us live news. A newspaper can not break the news live for its audience. Newspapers are finding it harder to be successful in this day and time. On the other side of this argument, people have more opportunity to write as a journalist because of intern et. It no longer binds us to local writing. A person in Kentucky can write an article for the New York Times and simply send it by e-mail in the matter of seconds. Some people do not think journalism is an art because they have not experienced it for themselves.Just like me, before I experienced journalism for myself I thought it was just like any other type of writing. These people think journalism is old fashioned and would much rather have their news delivered to them by television, bypassing reading an actual article because they want to be informed the easiest way possible. They believe televised media is more accurate and easier to be comprehended. We need to save the art of print journalism. When was the last time you seen a teenager reading an actual print of the newspaper when they were not in it?I think schools should make students read news papers to be informed of current issues in the community. This would better improve their reading skills and promote newspaper print. Journalism as an art will only die out if we let it. Work Cited â€Å"Art† Dictionary. com Random House, Inc. My Opinion of the 2012 Presidential Race essays

My Opinion of the 2012 Presidential Race essays Barack Obamas policy position with Iran is about the nuclear program and avoiding military conflict. Barack Obamas opinion about the nuclear program in Iran is that it is a threat to not only our national security, but also our ally, Israels, national security. Obamas policy is to make sure Iran has no nuclear capabilities. He does this by implementing tough economic sanctions. Some examples of sanctions that Obama has implemented are: 1) He makes sure they cannot export oil to the United States. 2) He controls shipping lanes. 3) He is restricting the flow of money into the country. By implementing these crippling sanctions, the goal of the Obamas administration is to get Iran to give up its nuclear program. The work on setting up crippling sanctions is difficult and when it comes to tightening sanctions, Obama states he has put in the toughest sanctions ever. Obama wants to assure that Iran does not try to get nuclear weapon materials. He has said that his red line is when Ir an starts building a bomb. In other words, if Iran starts building a bomb, he will take military action; this is very significant. A red line is the breaking point. If Iran crosses the red line, war will break out. The only thing that may prevent a confrontation is a sincere effort at diplomatic negotiations. The largest choice that Obama and Romney differ in is their outlook on diplomacy. Obama did not splurge on enough political capital into diplomacy. Romney, may not go more towards negotiations, however, if he does go towards the path of negotiations it will not be until later in November 2013, while Obama will be able to in the second week in November if he is to get reelected President of the United States. Mitt Romney agrees with Obama with tightening crippling sanctions, but thinks that Obama is not settling things fast enough and his work force is not strong enough. Mitt Romney says he would h...

Adapting Theory Into Practice †Example Admission Essay

Adapting Theory Into Practice – Example Admission Essay Free Online Research Papers Adapting Theory Into Practice Example Admission Essay Education is always an vital important problem which attracts more attention from each country. I thought to enter a university in China before, but after my throughtfully investigation, I choose this university which is far from my hometown. The Chinese fundamental education system pays more attention to the theory learning. Teachers always emphasize the concepts existed in the books, and put it in the second place that how to cultivate the ability of adapting theory into practice, which make us more familiar with the theory, but low ability in the practice. In order to let more and more students have the chances to receive higher education, many universities carried out an â€Å"Enlargement of Recruitment Policy†(guided by National government) in 1999, but the negative influence greatly increased owing to enlargement of recruitment on all levels and scales. As students who will enter university for further study, we are all worried about it. Teachers, especially professors, are extremely lacked. The classes, which should be on small scale are enlarged into big ones (with eighty to one hundred students). In the labs, several students sharing one equipment can be seen everywhere. The above scenes all intangibly make a great influence on students. As a student, who will receive higher education, what kinds of university I will choose have much relation with my future employment. Therefore, even though the tuition fees for Chinese universities are less than that in America, I don’t want to make any mistakes on my future, which means to receive such rough education. As we all know, there is a sound education system in U.S. Many universities in U.S. are famous in the world owing to their academic achievements. There are advanced teaching facilities, too. I firmly believe that I will receive better qualitative education on in your country. Financial Analysis of Blue Scope Steel Company Ltd and One Steel Essay

Financial Analysis of Blue Scope Steel Company Ltd and One Steel Company Plc - Essay Example We found that, though the two companies are quite profitable, Blue Scope Steel Limited is more profitable as we recommend those currently holding its stock should hold or buy more. Our recommendation is for our company to invest in this particular company. Globalization, the new information technology, and deregulation of financial markets and the quest for market dominance have eased the provision and search of finance. Today, millions of shares are traded every day on the world's stock markets. (Penman, 2003). Most often, investors see valuation as the first step toward intelligent investing. It has been argued (e.g. Penman 2003) that an investor can make informed decisions about where to invest once the value of shares are determine based upon the fundamentals. This is so because, without this value investors can either buy high or sell low Investors who trade on these stocks are often forced to ask themselves whether they are buying or selling at the right price. (Penman, 2003). Faced with too much information, Investors at times get confused with no clear indication of what the true prices of stocks should be. (Penman, 2003). Under such circumstances, the investor either make decision based on his or her instinct, such investors according to Penman (2003) are intuitive investors while others who make their decision based on capital market efficiency are referred to as passive investors (Atrill & Elliot2005). Penman, (2003) further argues that in making their decision, passive investors assumed that the market price is a fair price of the shares quoted. These investment mechanisms appear to be very simple, as they do not require much effort. (Penman, 2003: pp 3). How ever that is not the case as neither passive nor intuitive investor turn to be better off in the face of their decision. This is so because these sets of investors can either pay to high or sell too low (Damodaran, 2002). 1.1BlueScope Steel Limited According to the Company 2008 report, BlueScope Steel Limited (BlueScope Steel) is an Australia-based company (Report 2008). The Company is made up of different subsidiaries and is principally engaged in the manufacture and distribution of flat steel products; manufacture and distribution of metallic coated and painted steel products; steel building products, and sometimes in the design and manufacture of pre-engineered steel buildings

MACROECONOMIC Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

MACROECONOMIC - Essay Example It has also seen that the market and business of the country getting to have a sense of decency and accountability. The banks major role is to regulate the money or the Australian currency. It is also responsible for the management of other banks. In essence the RBA has a regulatory role in the Australian economy rather than profit making like other banks. The absence of this bank could have seen a scenario was prices of commodities rise insignificantly and no one has control over them. Financial institutions could have also been free to impose any interest rates and totally create a situation of anarchy in the economy. It is then necessary that we keenly look at the role of the RBA in the economy of Australia. The role of the RBA Though the reserve bank can play several other roles there are three major roles that can be sidelined in the study of the functions of the RBA to the economy of Australia. These roles are. ... Interest rates are a significant and basic thing that loaners look at before they can take a lone from the bank. The RBA then plays a very basic role of regulating the availability of money in the economy to be borrowed, these is done by the bank regulating and defining the general cost rate of interest in the whole banking sector. These are ideally achieved through the domestic market operations (RBO). In these case then the bank is responsible for the granting of government securities, these securities are like the treasury notes and also the treasury bonds. These two will directly influence the general interest rate of the banks. Maintenance of employment Unemployment is one key factor in the determination of the economic status of a country. Unemployment is majorly or in most cases high when inflation is high. With the prices of commodities being high and purchase power of citizen being low then a situation presents itself were many employees will not employ more workers or in ev en other case downsize there labor force. The RBA has a major role of regulating inflation by ensuring that it remains at a very low value. This low inflation is very critical in marginalizing prices in the market and thus the purchase power remains high. These unable more people to get employed and thus in such a case the RBA is playing a very critical role of maintaining employment. Ensuring economic prosperity Finally the RBA has a very major role of developing the economy of Australia. From the roles it plays it ensures that there is stability in the currency of Australia. A stable currency is a very good indicator of economy growth. When the currency is strong against other international currencies then the economy
